In 1610, Ieyasu Tokugawa initiated the construction of Nagoya Castle for his son Yoshinao. The sliding door murals are important cultural and historical properties reflecting the history of the generation; Topped with golden shachihoko, votive tiger-fish roof devices, Nagoya Castle and its magnificent Hommaru Palace were operated as a military facility. Nagoya Castle was Japan’s first castle to be designated a National Treasure and a National Historic Site.
